If you're setting up a Catsights display on a Mac, there's one extra step compared to Windows. The good news is it's a five-minute job, and most of that is macOS asking you to confirm things. Here's the whole process — why the app exists, how to install it, and how to know it's working.
Why macOS needs the app
The short version: Windows 10 and 11 ship with touch drivers built in, so a Catsights display is plug-and-play there. Plug in the cable, touch just works. macOS doesn't interpret touch the same way, so it needs a little help — and the Catsights app is that help. It runs quietly in the background and turns your touches into the clicks, swipes, and pinches you expect.
Get the app
Two ways, pick whichever is closer:
- Download it from catsights.com/download/catsights.pkg.
- Or use the installer on the USB drive that ships with Catsights One.
Both get you the same .pkg installer.
Install it
Double-click the package and follow the prompts — it's a normal macOS install, nothing tricky. When it's done, open the Catsights app before anything else. You want it running before you plug the display in, so it's ready the moment touch data arrives.
Turn on both permissions
This is the part people miss. The app needs two permissions, not one, and touch stays off until both are enabled:
- Open System Settings → Privacy & Security.
- Under Accessibility, add Catsights and switch it on.
- Under Input Monitoring, add Catsights and switch it on.
macOS will probably ask you to quit and reopen the app right after you grant the first permission. That's normal — just do it, then double-check that both switches are still on.
Verify it works
Touch should be live now. A quick three-part test:
- Pinch with two fingers — does the page zoom?
- Tap with two fingers — does it right-click?
- Swipe with one finger — do pages flip?
All three working? You're done. If not, read on.
Update or reinstall
The app updates like any Mac app: download the latest version from catsights.com and install it over the old one. And if the app ever feels flaky, removing it and reinstalling fresh solves a surprising number of problems.
Troubleshooting
Touch not responding at all? Walk down this list:
- Check both permissions — under Accessibility and Input Monitoring. Both need to be on.
- The app won't stay enabled — restart it. If macOS turned it off again, re-enable and restart once more.
- Still nothing? — reconnect the cable. Unplug it, plug it back in, and give the display a moment to wake up.
